Oxidization and reduction are the most basic and important elements of all the processes that take place in the natural world, including within the human body. (From the chemistry textbook for NHK high school lectures)
Oxidization is the reaction that compounds a substance with oxygen. It is also the reaction by which hydrogen is taken from a substance. Oxidization is corrosion, deterioration, and its strength is measured in mV of electric potential. Almost 100% of tap water, purified water and mineral water is water that causes corrosion. Put a paper clip in that water and it will show corrosion within a few days.
Reduction (kangen) is the restoration of an oxidized substance to its original state. In the reaction, oxygen is taken from the substance and compounds with hydrogen. Reduction is the removal of corrosion. It is the restoration of life. If the water is changed every day or if it is stored I a hermetic container, the clip never corrodes.
Kangen … "Restoration to the starting point"
Hydrogen is the starting point for water. Water (H2O) is created by the hydrogen and oxygen bonding together. Life began in the oceans 3.5 billion years ago.
The body fluids of living organisms, not just humans, closely resemble sea water. Sadly, the seas, and the body fluids of organisms and people are being gradually polluted by various human activities. For that reason, the globe is becoming sickened, and the numbers of sick people are increasing, despite advances in medicine.
Kangen, in this context, has two meanings.
One is going back to the starting point for the environment’s water. Another is taking the body fluids of humans and organisms back to their starting point.
The keyword is hydrogen. Japan’s water technology is the equal of its other technologies. The International Earth Environment University, of which two-time Nobel prizewinner the late Linus Pauling was one of the founders, has awarded its Environment Prize to Enagic for this water.
Kangen Water
The global population grew explosively in the second half of the 20th century, creating demand for enormous quantities of potable water. In the US and Japan, tap water is disinfected with chlorine. That leads to an increasing number of people using bottled water, or water purifiers that remove chlorine and impurities.
However, that is not enough. Professor Emeritus Yoshinori Oyama of Osaka University says “Kangen water, which contains generous amounts of active hydrogen and is a strong antioxidant, with the power to eliminate (reduce) free radicals, is good water for the body”.
Kangen water is water obtained at the negative electrode during electrolysis, while acidic water is obtained at the opposite, positive electrode.
Five types of water from Enagic
Enagic’s electrolyzed water generators can produce the following five types of water, easily, in your home.
①Purified water: Water Only passes through the filter without electrolysis.

④Strong Kangen water: This is strongly alkaline water with pH of 11.0 or higher. This Kangen water has solvent and swelling properties, reducing the necessary volumes of soap, laundry detergent and dish detergent.
⑤Strongly acidic water: Strongly acidic water, with pH of 2.7 or below, was been officially recognized as “sanitary water”, with strong disinfectant ability due to hypochlorous acid.
